Patty & Tim’s Nature’s Oasis Wedding — A Day of Joy, Laughter, and Donuts
I have to admit — keeping up with photography has been a challenge lately. With a new role at work, I had to pull back a little on my creative side. But this past Saturday, behind the camera once again, I felt that spark reignite. Photographing Patty and Tim’s wedding reminded me why I fell in love with this craft in the first place.
From the moment I met them, I knew their day would be something special. Patty and Tim are the kind of couple who bring light and laughter wherever they go. They described themselves perfectly: “We enjoy musicals and adventures, hanging with our kids and families, and those random drives that lead to unexpected memories. Tim loves puzzles and movies, while Patty is happiest reading, thrifting, or soaking up time outdoors. We love board games with friends… and, well, it all started with a doughnut!”
That last line couldn’t have been more fitting — because donuts became a fun and delicious theme throughout their wedding day! Their multi-tiered donut “cake,” topped with the largest donut I’ve ever seen, was a perfect reflection of their playful personalities.
A Setting Straight Out of a Storybook
Nature’s Oasis was the ideal backdrop — a hidden gem with stunning grounds, rustic charm, and even a few friendly farm animals who happily joined us for portraits. The attention to detail from owners Steve and Nikki Bushell was incredible. They went above and beyond to ensure every guest felt cared for, from the golf cart rides to cold water bottles waiting on ice.
The Morning of the Wedding
The excitement was in full swing as Tim and his groomsmen rolled up in a limousine, laughter echoing through the parking lot. Meanwhile, Patty and her bridesmaids were having their own fun at the spa — a perfect mix of nerves, anticipation, and joy.
One of the most touching moments of the day came just before the ceremony. Patty wanted to share a “first look” with her two sons beside the atrium. Fighting back tears (and protecting Katie Bowen’s beautiful makeup work!), she shared a few precious moments with them before walking down the aisle.
The Ceremony
The ceremony, led by family friend Nick Wilhelm, took place in the stunning pavilion perched above the water — a setting connected by a series of graceful bridges. As Patty and Tim read their vows, there wasn’t a dry eye to be found. Their Unity Sand Ceremony symbolized not just their love, but the beautiful blending of their families. When they sealed their vows with a kiss, the pavilion erupted in cheers.
Portraits with Personality
After family and wedding party photos, we ventured across the property for portraits. The golden light, the laughter, and the connection between Patty and Tim made for magic. One of my favorite moments was when we wandered to the barn to visit the goats, rabbits, geese, and horses — creating a set of photos that felt straight out of Yellowstone. It was the perfect mix of elegance and authenticity.
Dinner, Dancing, and Golden Hour Magic
Guests were treated to a delicious meal of roast beef and chicken, paired with pasta salad, mixed greens, and steamed vegetables — a hearty and satisfying dinner that had everyone talking. For dessert, the couple served decadent cheesecake before speeches began, filling the pavilion with laughter, love, and heartfelt words.
The party officially kicked off with the couple’s first dance, followed by the touching father–daughter and mother–son dances. The dance floor was full all evening (thanks to AK Productions) the kind of joyous energy that’s contagious to photograph.
As the evening settled into that soft golden glow, we snuck away to capture sunset portraits — the kind of images that feel timeless. And just when guests thought the night was winding down, The Streetery rolled out a crowd-pleasing midnight taco bar — the perfect late-night surprise!
To finish the night, I brought out my portable studio lights to play with the gorgeous ambient lighting around Nature’s Oasis, creating something uniquely artistic for Patty and Tim to treasure.
